CBT

LGBTQ

Gay, lesbian, and bisexual youth are at risk for a variety of clinical problems. Some of these problems include homophobia among family, peers, and authority figures (often expressed at school or at work), depression, suicidality, social anxiety, and body image disturbance.

Depression

Depression affects one’s cognitive, emotional, behavioral, and physical functions. One of the most insidious aspects of depression is that it tricks you into thinking that nothing will help, or that the relief will be temporary, and it will keep you in a cycle of maladaptive thinking, feeling, and doing (or non-doing). However, there are steps one can take to cope with depression.

Trauma and Grief

Recognizing traumatic stress symptoms and cultural factors associated with survivors is key to developing appropriate therapeutic interventions. Techniques vary but can include challenging irrational beliefs, correcting distorted thoughts and biases, role-playing, exposure with response prevention and relaxation training. 

Court Involved Parenting

Involvement in any court setting can be stressful and intimidating to navigate. My unique experience with the Oklahoma Justice system gives me the skills to help clients achieve court goals while protecting parents' privacy rights in therapy.
